An Introduction to Soofa Signs

Soofa is a female-founded company launched out of MIT in 2014, and our goal has been the same since day one: Help cities be more smart, social, and sustainable with public technology.

Soofa Signs are the industry’s only solar-powered information and advertising platform, and their job is to improve local and visitor experiences in communities everywhere.

Soofa Signs display relevant content from the community, local advertisers, and national brands, connecting viewers to the neighborhood and wider city.

Soofa Sign Displays

Soofa Signs use black and white electronic ink for a unique, crisp display, similar to a Kindle. The screen also has a 150 dpi resolution that’s easier to read than traditional LCD displays, due to it being reflective instead of backlit. The technology is low-energy and sustainable, which allows us to power signs with the sun and reduce light pollution in cities.

Signs feature local events, community content and PSAs, city social media feeds, transit information, digital advertising and more. On every Soofa Sign, there’s a percentage of display time saved for local community updates.

All Soofa Signs are wirelessly connected to a cell network and they communicate back to Soofa HQ at all times. When content changes, E-Ink technology uses a screen transition that clears old content, and replaces it with the new.

Cities can share and monitor content on our self-serve platform, Soofa Talk, and advertisers can easily book ads online using our AdBuy tool. We’re continuing to develop widgets for landowners access, since each community has unique needs and information to share. Since Soofa Sign content and locations are hyperlocal and relevant, advertisers are likely to get more eyes on their campaigns.

Installation

We work closely with city leadership as well as private developers to add new signs to our network. Since the signs are solar-powered, installation takes only 30 minutes, and four bolts in the sidewalk to stay in place. Once a Soofa Sign is installed, our team helps with set up and is here to answer any questions along the way.

Soofa Signs currently have homes in 57 cities across the U.S, and our network is continuing to expand. To learn more about bringing Soofa to your city or to advertise on a Soofa Sign, email hi@soofadigital.com.
