Why Solar-Powered Advertising Works

You’ve probably heard about solar panels creating energy for houses, but did you know that they can also be used to power advertising signs?

That's the exact approach Soofa takes to display digital advertisements. Soofa’s mission is to create smart, social, and sustainable advertising for cities and companies who are looking to practice eco-friendly digital communication.

Our solar energy practices are what makes Soofa different from most outdoor advertisers, and it also works just as well as typical electric powered screens.

How do solar panels work? When the sun shines onto a solar panel, energy from the sunlight is absorbed by the PV cells in the panel. This energy creates electrical charges that move in response to an internal electrical field in the cell, resulting in a flow of electricity that powers our e-ink signs. How cool is that?

Best of all, Soofa Signs offer great benefits to cities and advertisers.

  • It’s an inexpensive way to advertise

  • Soofa Signs can be installed almost anywhere

  • It reduces cities’ carbon footprint

Western Mass prioritizes sustainable advertising

One area of Massachusetts that is taking sustainability seriously is Western Mass. We partnered with Amherst and Northampton in 2021 to install 5 signs in the area. Since then, UMassFive has excitedly joined in the efforts to extend Soofa sign presence into 2022.

In an article on the UMassFive website, VP of Marketing Craig Bolvin stated, “We're a financial institution that's committed to sustainability, so helping our communities finance and embrace green technologies—especially in public spaces where everyone can benefit—is a natural fit for us.”

More companies are joining the sustainable outdoor advertising movement

Since 2021, 91 Soofa Signs have been installed across the U.S., which is a promising sign that sustainable communication is becoming a higher priority for cities around the country.

In addition, more companies and organizations are also joining in on the sustainable outdoor advertising movement, including our recent partners RedBull and New England Revolution.

Red Bull recently worked with Soofa to advertise their cliff diving event in the Boston Seaport. They created a vibrant vinyl design that generated hype for their big event on June 4th, 2022. Red Bull saw a massive turnout at the event, and Soofa’s eco-friendly approach helped to promote it!

In general, eco-friendly mindsets are becoming more popular with the increasing threat and impacts of climate change, and Soofa continues to lead the way for other solar-powered technologies.

Finally, there’s more good news! Soofa Signs can be installed where most signs can’t. Since there isn’t electrical work that needs to be installed in the ground, Soofa Signs can be installed wherever the sun hits. This provides an interesting advantage to advertisers, since ads can be placed directly in front of their prospects' outdoor dinner table or on a busy sidewalk.
